keep up to date with Eggbuckland Sixth Forms unofficial News blog

Hello and welcome to my new blog page. This page has been set up to aid the Sixth Formers at Eggbuckland Community College. I will try and keep it up to date and give you recent news items. I will always keep this site professional but the views on this blog are my own and i may blog at any time about any Sixth Form related Subject that I think is relevant. As i want to keep this as up to date as possible I may not always have the time to dot my i's and cross my t's. This is not a reflection on my professionalism or the college it's just that I want to keep it fresh and quick and sometimes i may not be able to completely check all the text I send to my blog. My main concern and objective of this is to help the students and parents. For official information please always consult the College Website www.eggbuckland.com I hope you enjoy reading the posts. If you would like to contribute or add a news item then please email me.

Apply for student finance from 14 December

Are you starting a full-time course at university or college?
•Find out what student finance is available to you and apply online now at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance
•Remember:
Most students won’t have to pay anything up front. There are student loans to help with tuition fees and living costs.
Repayments are based on future earnings and not what you borrow and you only repay when you have left university and are earning more than £21,000.
Students may also qualify for a government grant, which doesn’t need to be paid back.
•You don’t need to have accepted a place at university or college to apply for student finance. Apply online by 31 May 2012.
•Giving Student Finance England your UK passport number and your parents’ or partner's National Insurance numbers means that, as part of their assessment, SFE can automatically check your identity with the Identity and Passport Service and household income with HM Revenue & Customs, providing your parent or partner has consented to disclosure of their income.
•If SFE do need financial evidence to support your application, they’ll only ask for copies of documents – you don’t need to send in originals.
•If you are disabled or have children or adult dependants, you can apply for non-repayable grants.
•Visit www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance for more information and to apply. There is also a series of ‘how to’ videos to help you.

The research section of your study Skills module was due in on Monday.  Thank you so much to all those who have completed this and handed it in on time.  The essay is due in after Christmas.

Students who have handed the research in may if they wish go home to study when they are not in lessons.

In the future students will be asked to study in College if:

·         We feel that they are falling behind with their work and would benefit from working in college
·         They have been placed on an intervention at stage 2 or above
·         We feel the research completed is not to a high enough standard

I hope you have benefitted from the study skills module.  Please give me any feedback or suggestions for improvement.

A good first half term

So the first post. Hopefully all of the new year 12 students have settled in after the first half term. I think they will agree that the step up to year 12 is a big one. Students should be settled on to their courses and are now unable to drop or change courses. This half term the year 13 students have been given time to consider their next steps after Sixth Form. they have been doing their own research and have been working with tutors to look at their options. students applying for university need to complete their UCAS applications by November 5th. Once these applications are complete staff can then write references. I will check the students applications and then send them off to UCAS. if parents or students need more advice on this then please ask alternatively you could look at www.ucas.com or www.ucas.tv.
